The Wachapea Community

Maria

Maria.jpeg

I am Maria. I am 28 years old, and I grew up in the native community of Wachapea. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the National University of Jaén, and I am strongly committed to driving development within my community.

I take great pride in belonging to the Awajún culture and in speaking both Spanish and Awajún, capabilities that enhance the value I bring to local initiatives.

As a community agent in the Safe Water project, I am focused on delivering tangible impact, particularly in efforts to reduce childhood anemia

.

My priority is to provide clear information and strategic support to my community members, ensuring that together we advance sustainable improvements for our families.

I’m Nela, though in my community many know me as Mari. I’m 26 years old and a mother of two, which fuels my commitment to the well-being of the families around me.

I currently collaborate with the District Municipality to support pregnant women and infants from 0 to 12 months, a role that has shown me the strategic impact of early care on community health.

I want to be part of the safe water project because I’m convinced that access to clean water is a critical enabler for preventing disease and strengthening healthy environments.

I’m fully committed to building capabilities, mitigating risks, and promoting practices that help our children grow strong, healthy, and with a safer future ahead.
