Why This Matters

Get to know the communities you are helping. Let us take you on a journey to learn about the people of the Peruvian Amazon and how they live

The People Of The Amazon

Every day, from children to adults, the people of the Peruvian Amazon are surrounded by what appears to be an abundance of water – the water they live with daily. From washing, playing, and eating, to drinking, protecting it, and even finding ways to store it. This precious resource faces many challenges, from the collection of rainwater off of a dirty roof, to unhygienic storage, to the impact of illegal mining on water where children play and villagers fish.

A Coexistence with Water

Water represents so much for the local inhabitants, visitors, and the land itself. Any understanding of the value of water needs a perspective on conservation while addressing the importance of appreciating and valuing its existence as an essential for human life, the local environment, and wildlife

Around Water, Good Living

For the inhabitants of the Peruvian Amazon, water is a being, just like a person who takes care of those who take care of them. This is a spiritual connection. Around water, the "Good Living" (Buen Vivir) is sustained. Water, the individuals, and the universe that surrounds them, are all intertwined.

Our Work In Action

Here are videos and photos taken by our teams visiting the Awajun and Wampi Communities this year. These are some of the people we are helping right now with our partnership with Earth and Being (Tierra y Ser).
